Allen Iverson Signs With Grizzlies

By Warren Pritchett

Although I hate Allen Iverson due to what he caused in Detroit with my Pistons, corrupting what was an exceptionally tightly knit unit that happened to be one of the finest franchises in the East, I ought to set my dislike for the guy to the side.

By no means since I would like to, but since the biggest acquisition in the history of the Memphis Grizzlies' team took place on Wednesday. AI finally answered the doubt that many Grizzlies faithful have been asking.

Will he go there or not?

By means of Twitter, Iverson, who will soon be earning $3.5 million this season for Memphis, ended all of the assumption and agreed conditionally to join the Grizzlies, his 3rd team in the past four seasons.

The deal moreover contains bonuses for reaching the playoffs, one thing that hasn't happened since '06 (when they fell victim to the Mavs in the 1st round), and if they win the league finals.

Over the seasons, Iverson has had tribulations perceiving leadership and accepting any role that comes to him (example: the Pistons) and fighting with coaches (example: Philadelphia), which is why barely any franchises were interested in Iverson after his calamity in Detroit.

This time he has chance to do something similar to what he accomplished in Philadelphia (when he entered the league) and turn the fortunes of this franchise around and do it with a threesome of youthful talents in O.J. Mayo, Rudy Gay, and Hasheem Thabeet.

While we should not pencil the Grizzlies in for the playoffs by any means, it is not difficult to assume that the team will be improved from most recent season.

If Iverson stays for greater than one year, maybe there might be chance, however I do not think people should get their hopes up on the fact that the Grizzlies will make the post-season.

It is too premature.
