Tips For Hiring A Good Corporate Photographer

By Lance Walter

Corporate photography is an offshoot of commercial photography. Nevertheless, it is a highly skilled art with its own subtleties.

There are several aspects that distinguish other forms of commercial photography from corporate photography. In other types of photography, the photographer has the advantage of doing retakes until he arrives at the right angle to shoot the ideal picture, but corporate photography is basically a hit-or-miss business. Hence it is essential to engage the services of a competent corporate photographer.

The photographer, who you are intending to engage, must also have the capability to think quickly as at corporate events everything happens quickly and unexpectedly. Someone who is alert and shows urgency besides having an overall sense of what is going on around him can perform remarkably as a corporate photographer.

Taking headshots of corporate senior executives is an essential component of corporate photography. The headshots are either used for archival purposes or are printed in newspapers along with the relevant news item. Hence the photographer must have an exceptionally good hand at clicking such photographs.

The mere reputation of a photographer does not guarantee his competence in corporate photography. Shooting a corporate event requires an entirely different set of skills that a gifted wedding photographer, for instance, is not expected to have. Marriage functions are very ritualistic, so a wedding photographer knows exactly the sequence of events that he is to follow and executes his task accordingly. But in corporate events, unexpected incidents are very common and this requires total awareness from the photographer. That is why a photographer with previous familiarity with handling corporate events should always be considered for the job

Corporate photography serves a lot of important business functions and by keeping these tips in mind you would be able to hire someone who can do justice to your needs. However, to examine all the photographer's claims, you should always look at samples of his past work.
