DMC-ZS3 Offers Power in a Compact Size

By Reina Mae Apaitan

Consumers who are interested in having a light camera that is not quite so bulky or who are perhaps interested in owning a second camera that is easily portable will definitely want to check out the Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS3. This is not an ultra-compact camera, at least not when compared to the Canon G10, but most consumers will find it is twice as compact and light as its competitor. This is a camera that has all of the features that one would look for in a high quality camera without the bulk and heaviness that would commonly be associated with such a camera. The ZS3 delivers perfectly and can fit inside virtually any pocket. While the camera is quite small, it has an excellent range and features a stabilized 25-300mm lens.

One of the main benefits of the DMC-ZS3 is in fact its compact size. There are certainly other advantages to recommend it; however, including the AVCHD video and the 12x zoom. Consumers will discover that this camera is extremely versatile as well and is actually capable of replacing a camcorder in a number of situations. The benefits of the ZS3 are improved even more when you take the 25-300mm lens into consideration, making it possible for you to shoot everything from a landscape to your annual family portrait.

If you enjoy playing around with a variety of manual modes, you may be somewhat disappointed, as this camera does not feature manual modes. Still, the ability to shoot completely in auto makes the ZS3 extremely desirable. In addition, you can also operate the camera in intelligent auto mode. The Intelligent Exposure mode makes it possible to enlighten shades as well as improve the sensitivity for freeze movements through the Intelligent ISO. The camera even features auto correction to improve red eye when it is in the portrait mode. The ZS3 is a very smart little camera that makes it possible for you to photograph practically anything you might desire.

The wide angle lens, with its Leica logo, is currently one of the best on the market for this class of camera. It should not be expected that a 25mm lens that is capable of covering such an expansive surface would not compromise at least a slight bit when it comes to image quality, but this lens is able to hold up quite well.

When the Lumix DMC-ZS3 is placed in video mode it really shines. It can actually operate as an all-in-one device, meaning that you can record in a host of different ways. If you are interested in saving money by buying just one device that can do everything, this is the camera to choose.

When compared to other models of cameras that are currently available, the DMC-ZS3 is able to outshine those from competitors as well as other cameras that are produced by Panasonic, thanks to the presence of numerous features.

Compared to prior models produced by Panasonic and even the TZ5, the DMC-ZS1 takes a lot of the other model's great features and improves upon them. With the DMC-ZS3 you get a new image processor, more power in the zoom lens, HD movie mode and face detection that is taken to the next level. That is not even taking into consideration the number of features that were already great about this series from Panasonic, which have not been changed at all.

In terms of the competition, the ZS3 is able to outshine even the SX200 IS from Canon due to the number of benefits that it offers over the PowerShot. Perhaps the only area where Canon might have a slight advantage is the presence of the manual controls, but even that is not a detriment, provided that you have no overwhelming desire to experiment with your own manual controls.
